The top level country code domain extension for the Syrian Arab Republic is .sy. The .sy registration is available to individuals, organizations or businesses related to Syria. Since the year 2002, the Syrian Telecommunication Establishment (STE) has been the authorized sponsoring organization for assigning domain names under the .sy extension.
Processes such as the domain name entry, maintenance of the domain naming system, and database updates for .sy registration are handled by the domain registration unit, STE.
Second level domains are allowed to be registered under the top level domain, .sy. Recognized second level domains include: .com.sy (for commercial entities), .edu.sy (for educational institutions), .net.sy (used for network related services), .gov.sy (government organizations), .mil.sy (for military use), and .org.sy (non-profitable organizations).
Applicants can register .sy domain names when they provide payment for the registration fee. Domains are to be renewed after one year. Certain terms and conditions are to be accepted during .sy registration, such as the fact that domain names should not be used for unlawful purposes and should not violate Syrian laws.
The .sy domain name can contain characters ranging from 2 to 24. The alphanumeric characters within the sets (a-z), (0-9) and special character-hyphens (-) are accepted. The hyphen should not used as the first and last character of domain names, however, as the first character should always be a letter.
After completing .sy registration, the payment receipt is mailed to you on your billing contact address. Your domain names under .sy TLD will be activated
on the internet within 24 hours of the email notification. The .sy registration provides you a unique identity on the internet and thereby promotes your brands and services in the Syrian business market.
